Going Out

CHARMING Comedy-drama ‘The Farewell’ will be shown tomorrow night in the W Cinema.

Westport Film Club is kicking off its spring/summer 2020 season at the W Cinema tomorrow evening (Wednesday), February 5, with ‘The Farewell’, which will be screened at 8.45pm.
The film follows a family who, upon learning their grandmother has only a few weeks to live, decide not to tell her and schedule a family gathering before she dies, travelling to China under the guise of a wedding to say their goodbyes.
Based in part on the real-life experiences of the director, Lulu Wang, ‘The Farewell’ is a charming American comedy-drama that combines universal themes with the cultural specificity of the central Chinese-American family.
The film was nominated in two categories at the 77th Golden Globe Awards, including Best Foreign Language Film, with Awkwafina winning for Best Actress – Musical or Comedy.
‘The Farewell’ is 100 minutes long, in English and Mandarin with English subtitles, and rated PG by IFCO for emotional scenes, mild violence and language.

Tickets can be purchased in the W Cinema, Westport, from 8.30pm. The screening will start at 8.45pm. Annual Westport Film Club membership for 2020 (€35 plus €5 administration) includes admission to eight screenings, starting February 5. Non-members welcome; guests pay €10 entry per film.
