Westport Town Hall will put on their first live event since March on Saturday, September 12, when singer-songwriter Padraig Jack will take to the stage in front of a strictly limited audience. Local live-music lovers have been collectively holding their breath for news like this, and the Galway musician’s live performance won’t let them down.
Born and raised on the Aran Islands, guitarist and pianist Padraig Jack writes in both Irish and English – just like his father, singer-songwriter Barry Ronan. Padraig’s sound is influenced by his surroundings, as well as by the likes of James Taylor, Van Morrison, Paul Brady and The Eagles. He has appeared national TV and radio, with his Irish-language songs receiving an almost daily airing on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
He has toured with Sharon Shannon in Ireland and the UK, and has opened for The Saw Doctors, Donal Lunny, Mick Flannery, The 4 of Us, John Spillane. He’s also appeared at numerous festivals, including Electric Picnic and the SOMA, Shorelines and the Skibbereen arts festivals. No stranger to Mayo, he has played in the Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival and Castlebar literary festival Wild Atlantic Words, and guested at the Bridge of Song music night in Castlebar’s Bridge St Bar.
Padraig’s debut album, ‘Making Sand’, is being released this month on Good Deeds Records. Recorded with producer John Reynolds (Sinéad O’Connor, Damien Dempsey, Indigo Girls), its lead single ‘Minnie’ was released in 2019.
Everyone at Westport Town Hall Theatre is thrilled to be hosting live music again, and they wish to advise audiences that they are doing everything possible to ensure that all HSE guidelines for staff, performers and patrons are being adhered to. For social-distancing reasons, seating will be limited to a maximum of 40 in the venue, and audience members will be required to wear a face covering. (Further shows may be added should demand exceed capacity.)
People are asked to purchase their tickets in advance and be aware that seats will be allocated by the theatre. Special access and wheelchair users are asked to inform the box-office team in advance if they require accessibility seating.
