IT has become one of the social occasions of the year in the Mayo calendar and large crowds are again expected to flock to Ballinrobe Racecourse for Ladies Day next Monday evening, June 24.
Once again this year, the prestigious event is being sponsored by local company Vaughan Shoes, with the day being officially titled Vaughanshoes.ie Ladies Day.
This will be the sixth year of sponsorship by Vaughans, who are now one of the leading shoe store chains in the west of Ireland, with shops in Ballinrobe, Claremorris and Castlebar.
Donal Vaughan of Vaughan Shoes, commented: “Once again we are delighted to sponsor the Ladies Day Best Dressed Competition at Ballinrobe Racecourse. It continues to grow in popularity every year and we are always blown away by the effort the ladies go to. We’re looking forward to a great day on June 24.”
Last year, the event was won by Colleen Brady, from Galway, who wore a white off the shoulder trouser suit from Asos and her headpiece was by Galway-based milliner, Edel Ramberg.
The woman tasked with picking this year’s winner is none other than Mandy Maher of the Catwalk Model Agency, who will be familiar to television viewers as the fashion stylist on Ireland AM. The lucky winner will scoop a cash prize of €1,500, plus there are goody bags for nine runners-up.
Mandy has been judging the Ladies Day competition for a number of years and is really looking forward to making the short trip down from Galway to judge in Ballinrobe.
“By all accounts, Ballinrobe has been one of the busiest Ladies Day events over the last number of years, and I am really hoping the sun shines and we have some of the west’s best style on show. It’s never easy being the judge but I can only say we will be doing our best to find a worthy winner,” said Mandy.
John Flannelly, Manager of Ballinrobe Racecourse, said Ladies Day at Ballinrobe has become one of the highlights of the season with record crowds every year.
“We would like to thank our Ladies Day sponsor Vaughanshoes.ie for their continued support and we look forward to another great evening here at Ballinrobe next Monday. It’s sure to be another occasion to remember,” said John.
Of course, there is also some competitive action too out on the track. The feature race is the Treacy’s Pharmacies Irish EBF Fillies Handicap valued at €25,000, with the first of a seven-race flat card off at 5.50pm. There will be live music by Streetwise in the Mask Pavilion after racing.
